Youth Killed in Group Attack in Bhubaneswar; Minor Detained, Five Accused on the Run

A youth died after sustaining critical injuries in a violent group attack reported from Bhubaneswar, triggering swift police action. The incident occurred following an altercation, during which the victim was allegedly assaulted by several individuals using blunt objects. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead during treatment.

Police officials confirmed that one minor involved in the incident has been detained for questioning, while five other accused persons are currently absconding. Special teams have been formed to trace the remaining suspects, and raids are being conducted at multiple locations in and around the city.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the attack stemmed from a personal dispute, though the exact motive is still being examined. Statements from eyewitnesses are being recorded, and CCTV footage from the area is being reviewed to establish the sequence of events and identify those involved.

The case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation. Authorities have assured strict action against all those responsible and urged the public to cooperate by sharing any information related to the case.

The incident has raised concerns over rising instances of group violence in the city, prompting calls for increased policing and preventive measures to ensure public safety.

Police sources said the victim was reportedly attacked late in the evening in a busy locality of Bhubaneswar, creating panic among residents in the area. The injured youth was first taken to a nearby private hospital and later shifted to a government medical facility, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Senior police officers visited the crime scene and supervised the investigation. A forensic team was deployed to collect evidence, while the area was cordoned off to prevent tampering. Authorities have also seized possible weapons used in the assault and are examining mobile phone records to track the movements of the accused before and after the incident.

Officials stated that the detained minor is being questioned in the presence of a juvenile justice counsellor, as per legal procedures. Police believe the absconding accused are hiding outside the city and have alerted neighbouring districts to prevent their escape.

Meanwhile, tension prevailed in the locality following the incident, with additional police personnel deployed as a precautionary measure. Community leaders have appealed for calm and urged people not to spread rumours on social media.

The police reiterated that no one involved in the crime will be spared and assured that arrests will be made soon as the investigation progresses.
